SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The first rain of the season is due to arrive in the Bay Area Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS is advising of rain showers continuing through Thursday morning that could lead to slippery roadways.

The weather service is advising drivers to plan extra time for their commutes, "slow down, and keep cruise control off and headlights on."

Expected rain totals look to be light across most of the Bay Area. However, locations like Monterey, Big Sur and South Lake Tahoe could see up to half an inch.

This week's rain is due to arrive on the heels of a temperature shift that saw the Bay Area leave behind weeks of summer-like heat with more typically fall temperatures moving in on Sunday into Monday.
